Let me keep this brief. Today, my contact info—usually my phone number—is how people reach me. But the reality is, I have no idea who has my number. Each spam message I receive is a reminder of how many people and businesses actually have access to me.
Ideally, I’d like to know exactly who has my number. Beyond that, I want the ability to retract it if I decide someone shouldn't have it anymore. I want to be notified whenever someone shares my number. I want control over who can share my number and with whom.
This level of control sounds like a pipe dream, right?
Well, we set out to see if this was even possible. The challenge is the problem I just described isn’t specific to phone numbers; it’s fundamental to the nature of information. Any system where people connect using “contact information” like numbers, emails, usernames, etc., makes this kind of control impossible. To solve this, we would essentially need a new paradigm where people can connect without using any contact information.
Adding contacts without any contact information? Is this even possible? Turns out, it is.
Welcome to Port! On Port, you have complete control over who can access you, how much access they have, and how long this access lasts. You also decide who can connect you with others and can track how new connections were made. With Port, spam becomes a thing of the past. This level of control comes with exceptional privacy—everything is end-to-end encrypted, messages can be set to disappear, and Port’s servers don’t collect any identifying information about you.
